December Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians,

.

.

Your Support is Needed

There is a movement in Santa Fe to change the funding formula that supplies our district with our operation monies. Lordsburg is currently designated a Small District with Small Schools. By keeping Southside, Central and RVT open, our district receives money to compensate us for the higher cost of running a small school.

As a Small District, we also receive compensatory funds to help us provide the necessary programs to our students. While we have been hit hard with budget cuts in the past year, and are still making budget cuts, we have been able to continue to provide our students with a high quality education and offer the necessary programs our students need and enjoy.

The Legislative Finance Committee is trying to dissolve Small Districts and Small Schools from the funding formula. The LFC believes doing this will save the state a great deal of money, however, it will mean we will lose around $1.3 million dollars from our budget. This would force us to suspend programs and would increase class sizes, thus affecting your child’s education. If this movement is to be stopped, the people in Santa Fe MUST hear from YOU!

Do you want to: promise a clean, never-ending (renewable) power and fuel supply in the United States? It depends on our ability to harness energy from sources such as the wind, sunlight, organic matter, the Earth’s thermal heat, and rivers. Renewable Energy is the Key! You need a High School diploma or a GED and a Bachelors degree in Renewable Energy.

Income varies from $30,000 to $65,000

I have 9 years of experience as a teacher in public education in Deming, New Mexico, 6 years as an administrator in the state of New Mexico, and 7 years as an administrator in the state of Colorado. I hold a B. A. in elementary education; an M.A.T. in elementary education and an M.A. in school administration. All from Western New Mexico University.
I have worked with many different civic organizations within communities in gaining support for education. I have served on many and various boards such as School to Work, Chamber of Commerce and one for children at risk. Students are my business. I firmly believe that students can learn if the environment is designed to be conducive to learning. This includes such things as improving instructional materials, professional development, and having specialized resources for students that address their exceptionalities. Please come and volunteer at RVT,
parent involvement is essential for everyone’s learning.
