Hooray for Our Veterans

RVT presented a program about Veterans Day today and celebrated our local veterans. The students have been learning about Veterans Day and the significance of this special day. R.V. Traylor Elementary honors our local heroes, and the 24.9 million military veterans in the United States of America.

Fifties Day Party in Mrs. Gutierrez' Class

Mrs. G's 1st/2nd grade combo class celebrated our 50th day of school with a 50's Party.
The student came to school in their 50's clothes and danced away.
We also had a hula hoop, frisbee, and bubble gum contest. The toys were actually from the 50's.
We had a great time dancing and drinking coke floats.
A special thank you to Mrs. Molly Pressler for providing 50's memorabilia.

Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco and other drug awareness campaign observed annually.

In 1985, Calexico, California donned red ribbons to honor slain Drug Enforcement Administration agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena. The red ribbon became their symbol for prevention in order to reduce the demand of illegal drugs. Congressman Duncan Hunter and teacher David Dhillon launched "Camarena Clubs" in California high schools and in 1985 club members presented a proclamation to Nancy Reagan. The following year, parent teacher organizations in California, Illinois and Virginia wore red ribbons during late October. In 1988, the first National Red Ribbon Week was proclaimed by the U.S. Congress and chaired by Nancy Reagan.

Red Ribbon week will be scheduled as follows (including RVT, Central, and Southside):
· Monday, Oct 20th “Our world is brighter without drugs!” – wear bright colors
· Tuesday, Oct 21st “Follow your dreams not drugs!” – wear pajamas and slippers
· Wednesday, Oct 22nd “Parents set the example, be drug free!” – Parent-Teacher Conferences
· Thursday, Oct 23rd “Use your head! Do not do drugs!” – wear hats
· Friday, Oct 24th “Stay in the game, be drug free!” – wear Jerseys

STUDENT ATTENDANCE COUNTS, Family Liaison, and PTO

Dear Parents/Guardians,

STUDENT ATTENDANCE AT OUR SCHOOL COUNTS EVERYDAY!
Did you know that student attendance is one of the over thirty factors that the New Mexico Public Education Department looks at in deciding if R.V.T. is proficient? We MUST have 92% attendance through the entire school year to meet AYP. Last year our average attendance was 93.2%! Thank you for your diligence in sending your children to school! Please continue to help us by sending your child to school every day!
The attendance rate by grade level from August 11 to September 5 is as follows:
Kinder 91.45%
First grade 88.68%
Second grade 95.48%
We are in School Improvement I. We need to continue to keep our attendance high so we can get totally out of School Improvement I!
